MAISON DES ORPHELINS emerges as a creative ecosystem, extending through various disciplines to explore the multiple layers that compose identity, and through identity, or the lack thereof, a collective yearning and nostalgia. The mind, with all of its complexities and divergences, forms the emotional landscape we inhabit, and inspires our name through intertwining metaphors of protection and symbolic homes. When memories blur, fade, or fragment, when the grounding force of remembrance dissolves, and a sense of belonging is lost, new ways of sheltering emerge.
Intrigued by the alienation that comes from the disconnection and abandonment of traditional sources of power and community, our work embodies a literary universe that portrays allegorical orphans. The garments serve as extensions of these narratives: wearable expressions of environments, characters, and imagined worlds that echo shared feelings of longing and estrangement. Returning to the very essence of clothing as a refuge, the intimate relation between the garment and wearer is contemplated in every step of the construction process.
Devotedly crafted with a balance of traditional and experimental techniques, each piece is shaped with intention. The process does not follow a strict order; instead, it unfolds organically. Each garment conceived independently, yet gradually revealing a quiet coherence when brought together. The pieces speak to one another like scattered notes of a larger composition, forming a language of their own.
MAISON DES ORPHELINS offers a place to inhabit, a site where memory, fiction, and sentiment are stitched into form.
